A Photo shoot organized by Demetrius Holt of Blerd and Powerful, his third annual Juneteenth shoot was a HP LoveCraft groove with a Jazz 30's swing to it. Here's what he had to say about it...
The word "Lovecraft" comes with a lot of different meanings but it is squarely defined as a Sci-Fi and Supernatural genre. That provides us with a massive creative playground and you know how well we do with that. So... we have to make it sexy. How do we do that?
The 1930s Black Music scene was comprised of Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Mary Lou Williams, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Eubie Blake, James P. Johnson, and Duke Ellington. With movies like Harlem Nights or even Smooth Criminal as inspiration... we could make the sexiest, slickest monsters this side of the Mississippi. From vampires and werewolves to the Great Old Ones like Cthulu and Azathoth.... let's flex these imaginations and show the world what it has never seen before!!
ScorpKing Costuming met the challenge by bringing one of LoveCraft's creatures to life. The soul snatching Night Gaunt.
